Shoukou is reviving her childhood. Still, she is hell cute in kid form.
The third episode deals with Shoukou and how she is adapting to the whole situation of turning into a kid. We see less of Karada this episode as it is a Shoukou-centric section, with flashbacks and memories of Hiro and the likes. In a way, we realize a bit more about the relationship of the two and I guess it’s understable why the two people did the things they did.
It was just that….it’s sad.
Episode summary

Shoukou and Karada went out for shopping, trying to get used of their new lives. Karada tried out various bras and clothes while Shoukou did as well, and she struck a nice pose for a cute dress she was trying out. As she blushed and overheard Karada saying something was cute, she thought Karada refered to her.
However, it was in fact a child’s bed Karada was referring but Shoukou reminded her that she was an adult as the salesman recommended her some things. Shoukou was starting to speak until the assistant gave her a queer look as she refered to Karada as the sister. Karada was however unsure of many of the things that were said. With some hiccups, the bed was finally moved to their house.
As dinner was prepared by Karada, Shoukou bathe and was thinking of the new body she had. As she came up, she was surprised how well Karada can cook. After their meal, they slept, only to see Karada crying and missing Hiro a lot. She wondered what would be life for them now.
They had to adapt somehow. As Karada was out one day, Hiro came over suddenly and Shoukou said she was the younger sister of Shoukou. As they talked more, Hiro realized that the “little sister” sounded exactly like Shoukou but did not place the link between the little sister and Shoukou. Hiro assumed that the “little sister” had heard everything from Shoukou herself.

As Shoukou brought out some leftover food, they talked about the useless boyfriend and the likes until a point that Shoukou got so annoyed about his care for Karada that she ran off. As hiro gave chase, he caught Shoukou at the wishing stone. Then, we had the flashback of Shoukou and Hiro in happier times and telling her that he would be back soon. However, he never did as we knew from now. Shoukou then tried to hit Hiro but failed because she was too small. She said that she had not wished for anything and she had became the sacrifice for Karada who wanted to grow up.
Here, we had the side from Hiro that he never told Shoukou about it because he did not know he had a sister. Karada was not his blood sister but in fact, he had been adopted when he was 2. Hence, he never knew of his sister but the call in the funeral made him go back. He wanted to go back to USA after that, but the brave look of Karada made him stay there, which was why he considered Karada to be his sister right now. He still did not know it was Shoukou until Shoukou clearly showed she was who she was.
As Karada was cooking, Shoukou returned as she remarked to close the door. However, Hiro came in and Shoukou said that the girl cooking was his sister. What would happen?

Thoughts

The side of Hiro telling his story makes me more sympathetic to him. I fully expected the decision to be so. If i was Hiro, i would assume that I would be back, since it was just a funeral to go and get back soon enough. However, when you see the young and brave Karada, a sister that you never knew existed, it is cold blooded to leave her alone. Even though it is completely unfair to Shoukou in this case, I felt that Hiro did what he should.
It is just that a possible and fruitful relationship just disappears because of this. I do wish geninuely that there will be a happy ending for Shoukou and Hiro. I know Shoukou is bratty, selfish and conceited. I know Hiro is mellow, laid back and disturbing. However, I want Hiro to go back to the days when he looks so cheerful and content. For now, he is just living his life for Karada and it is wrong.
You do not live your life for anyone but yourself. I agree that Karada needs her support but to sacrifice your entire life simply for her is just wrong. She is a child, yes, but she is not helpless. The fact that she is brave and working hard for it should indicate that one day, you should just let her go. I think there is a time for everything and the time is now. Shoukou now is the venerable party more than Karada.
It might seem that Karada from the last three episodes is the most emotionally weak. However, I disagree with the obvious portrayal. I would say that both Hiro and Shoukou are the weak links. Both of them never dared to face the truth and avoided the past completely. To be able to brave that is courage and I think they are both escaping from life. They need to face it together and I think that is what the wishing stone wants. It is for them to start their life afresh and back to their normal selves.
Next episode seems to be a flashback of the first time that Karada and Hiro met in the funeral. Can’t wait for this great show to slowly unfold. Nice comedy elements, with nicely paced drama and slice-of-life chunks in all good pieces.
Excellent episode.

Excellent for sure. Hiro is definitely the one screwing things up. He’s changed his whole life for Karada and it seems what she really wants if for him to have not done such a thing; or something along those lines.
It is the adults who are avoiding their feelings, but that’s pretty typical, children don’t ponder to far ahead before they let something out, but adults can be fearful of rejection/embarassment/crying/etc.
Hiro needs to cut his damn hair!

To be honest I was slightly bored while watching this episode, but I guess Asatte is good enough to watch.

Even though the show is moving very slowly, we can tell that Hiro simply did what he thinks was right. If you are Hiro, you probably do the same and that’s why it’s painful to see Hiro. I actually sympathize with him quite a bit.
@Anga:” To me, i never watch asatte no houkou for the excitement. If you are looking for powerful twists, i do not think it is the right place. It is just a nice drama, with a tinge of sadness and many memories to remember. I like the honest portrayal presented in this show, even though the adopted sister part was…..cliche.
Still, it works.

The fall season is turning out to be pretty good, although way too many shounen shows but I enjoy the few slice of life shows I get.
