Most disturbing image I seen in All of Red garden. Death, death and more deaths.

It’s a recurring nightmare that never ends. A haunting that will continue to question you.

Why?

…This show is impossibly freaky, and I swear that my life is reduced by 2 years just watching it because my life is suck dry by the fear and recoiling scariness of the plot that is unfolding in this show. Man, if there is a most depressing anime to watch, it will not be KGNE or Saikano. Those are tear jerking shows, not depressing shows. Red Garden is just about the most depressing show in the world of anime and I need some happy anime therapy in order to fix this imbalance.

I am starting to regret. It is not because it sucks. In fact, it rocks so hard that I will recommend anyone that likes to watch horror/mystery series to watch this. The reason why I regret is that I am unable to attract more people to watch this show beyond the first episode because other than the “ugly character design”, it is really one of the best shows that is in the fall season, even upsetting Kanon, Deathnote and other powerhouses for me.

That is saying something, since I hold these shows in great esteem, but this Red Garden is shaping up to be one of the most scary shows ever, if they continue to do well. Gonzo possibly has a big hit on their hands.

Episode summary

Kate is walking with Lisa’s father, talking about the exchange of diaries. Kate said she did not have it, as it was the funeral of Lisa. The funeral proceedings are on as the four gals stood in a distance watching it as they discussed about the diaries. However, Kate cannot remember anything about the diary. They then saw Lu and the assistant in the funeral, as Rachel rushed over to question her why she was there. She said she was a funeral inspector and they got into a bit of a quarrel before Lu asked them to go to one side.

There, Lu asked them whether they really wanted to know what happened. She then passed them a stone and asked them to bury it if they want the truth as she left them. They started to argue about whether to bury it or not. Rachel and Rose did not know what will happen if they did, and Claire wants to do it to see the truth. As they continued to talk, there was also mention that their wounds immediately recovered. However, they kept quarreling until a car passed by. It was Lu and she asked whether they really want the truth. She then brought them to a balcony, where they saw 4 “compatriots” who have lost the will to live.

A man, not unlike the man beast that they met in ep1/2, charged at the four gals who looked to be devoid of any life. Rachel recognised one of the girls as Maria (sic?) who was an acquaintance in the club she went. As the gals fell one by one, Maria was the only one left as Rachel screamed at her to move. However, as Maria looked at Rachel with lifeless eyes, the man tore Maria’s neck apart and broke it. Rachel screamed at Lu and asked them what did they do to deserve it. Lu said there was nothing they did. It is just the way it is as the bodies crumbled into black dust as the girls under the ground died.

The four gals then decided to bury the stone and nothing happens as they went on with their normal life. All of them looked clearly restless and confused. As tbey met up at night, they noted that nothing happened. However, in their interaction, Rose said something of a dream in a house, with a pool, dogs running around and the likes. All of them have that, as a cut scene of a red rose grew at the spot where they buried the gem and butterflies started to gather. It was then when the girls looked in total horror as they saw the butterflies. They started to see the past, that night when they “died”.

The four gals were out that night together, as they had Lisa’s diary that had special symbols that only the two of them knew. They then went to a huge mansion to look for Lisa. However, there was a man (probably Lisa’s bf) who noticed that they had intruded. Various discontinued scenes of the man asking his grandfather what to do with the child rang out. The scene cut back to the four sitting in the bar, as the past continued to play. They were then stabbed as Lisa was in fact dead (probably killed and raped) in a bathtub. They were then killed unceremiously to silence them.

It was then that they switched back as Lu appeared to tell them that the girls are really dead. Lu and her assistants have found them and picked them up to give them a life. However, Lisa was stolen away from them while they retrieved them and hence died. It was probably their luck that they survived and was given another life to live.

To live or to die, was the choice Lu gave them.

Thoughts

Why did Lu and her party know about the gals? That makes no sense whatsoever to me. I do not know, i kinda expected them to answer this question in the future episodes. The fact that Lu knew about them and retrieved meant that whatever Lu did, it was possibly something illegal and disturbing. The four gals are definitely having something special for them in order to be chosen. I do not know what is the reason for them to be chosen. I cannot really accept that it’s a random choice. If it is, oh well.

Also, what is Lu’s goal and motive? What does Lu want or do as a job? I really feel that there is something that they are hoping to see through these four gals. The fact that the four gals can recover almost immediately and all that fuzz means that something is clearly done to their bodies in order to have those special powers. I also have a suspicion that this background is in fact fake, even though it is probably due to the fact that i am skeptical. Hypnosis can make people think that they have done something in the past when the situation is non-existent.

I just feel that there are a lot of questions still left to be answered. I wonder if it’s even a choice? I feel that to live and fear whether you will be called to die is more creepy. I like not knowing when i will die but for these four gals, they are starting to lose their will to fight or to live. The fact that they no longer have a life to look forward to, but only a life that will be determined at night time is scary. It is almost like they are living two lives, the normal day life and a hell at night.

It’s a life that no one will ever want. Are they still alive or dead already?

I do not know and I do not want to find out but I do know that this form of living is painful. As humans, we hold our lives so dearly. Now, if you are given a new life but have to fight like an animal every night, will you do it? I do not know…

It’s disturbing. The 4th episode preview sounds scenes of Rose and Kate together, with the voiceover talking about girls who are not friends, nor buddies, yet having to fight together in the night. As their will to live diminishes, what will be their fate?
