Some love for Mai? <3 ?
hohohoh~

Hmm, the first arc had ended and I quite like the introductory arc, that explains about what the Shibuya Psychic Research does and who they are all about. It is perhaps very interesting, as it explained most of the mysteries that have been happening, even though I quite like the explaination, even on the supernatural part.
So, who do you think has done all the strange things in this mansion? Is it the poltergeist that is creating the trouble? Or is it due to human causes?
Or could it be Shibuya’s chauvinistic and narcisstic side that have manifested the greatest evil ever and he is in fact the reincernation of the Akuma? He is in fact the hunter and the hunted, doing both things to confuse all the psychics by jamming their spiritual abilities with his devil-like spells.
Mai is in fact the goddess of misfortune and that is why she can conjure subconsciously due to her liking of all the evil spirits around in the place to cause such trouble. She is in fact the manifestation of all bad fortune in the world and her very ability to be there will threaten mankind.
Who knows?
I might be true, no?
(and…yes, i think i am joking…I think)

Episode summary

Mai was having a dream sequence of Shibuya being totally soft and kind to her after the wall crashed at her. She was getting charmed in the dream until a voice came and woke her up. She had been sleeping for a long time after the wall crashed at her and the people said that they would disband for today and investigate this another day as their safety now was compromised. Shibuya was also not around for the whole day and they said he must be disgusted at being wrong.
As Mai went to class, Karada was boasting to others about the spiritual entity in the house. They then had an announcement to go to the office and there was Shibuya in the office. He then had a strange red light that was hypnotizing the people as he spoke about a chair in the house and all the experiences that had happened. With that, he drew back the curtains as the light came in and ended it with Mai following him.
They were then setting up the place, as she asked whether he had came back to the house at night and he did not. Mai then started to blush on why she was dreaming of him when she was unconscious and was worried that she might have a crush on him already. He then instructed both Mai and the excorist to check on the chair in a certain room as they installed a camera as well as make a chalk mark around the chair to make sure where the original position was. Then, they sealed off the room and asked Mai and the excorist to make signatures on the sealed wall.

The next day, Mai did not sleep as she was too excited with what Shibuya was intending to do. They then gathered everyone together as they smashed the wall and saw that the chair had moved. Shibuya said it was the act of a poltergeist and it was probably conjured by a 13-14 year old girl that has immense spiritual power. Due to imbuilt stress and the need to gain attention, she unconsciously conjures up a poltergeist to prove what she said was true. Shibuya’s red light to hint that the chair would move was an attempt to see the manifestation of the power under immense stress.
Karada is in fact the one who did it. There was in fact not used as a hospital and there was no war affecting this part of the place, hence having spirits is not logical. Shibuya further explained that Karada was getting worried that her reputation as someone spiritual strong will be undermined and under that stress, she had used that supernatural ability (poltergeist) to create the situation so that things will be true and she can be the centre of attention.
The other causes like the witch locked up was due to a nail placed on the door to trap her. The video with the fuzzy sounds were caused when Karada did not rush out with the others when the shrine maiden fell and in fact editted the video. Mai then said she understood what it meant when you feel that you are lonely and neglected. Shibuya then added that he was going to say that there would be spirits and the place had to be evacuated, hence a lie that showed that Shibuya does have a soft side.
As the investigation was over, Shibuya told Mai that she could leave. Mai was still thinking about the fun she had and she realized she did not have any contacts of Shibuya as they are lost again. However, an announcement came as Shibuya called the school to ask her to get the cash. He then added thanks and asked her whether she’s free to join the SPR (Shibuya Psychic Research) as they need more help.
Hence, Mai’s adventure as a ghost hunter started.

Thoughts

I was surprised. I fully expected the show to not dwell on supernatural incidents and instead debunk these spiritual entities using scientific reasons to prove the existence of no ghosts even on that poltergeist incident. However, when Shibuya explained that the poltergeist was created under immense stress by Karada when she wants the attention, i was kinda surprised. I cannot say whether it’s good or not, but I did like the fact that they did not show any ghosts.
I mean, if they had the ghost appearing per se, it will make it …less mysterious. I usually feel a ghost show works when they never show any physical appearance of the ghost. Generally, it keeps you thinking whether it’s really a ghost or not, which helps in mystery. That to me, was a good touch, as the sight of a ghost will destroy that mysterious feeling slightly, unless it is deliberate as a red herring to make you confused.
In all, I do not know whether I like the romantic relationship between Shibuya and Mai. I hope it’s more comical relief than anything else because I don’t know. I do not see Mai and Shibuya working well as a relationship. Maybe, it’s just me but the blushing and all that does not fit the whole ambience of the show. That is what I feel about it at the very least.
I wonder what next week will be about. Ghost hunt seems to be a simple title that is pretty interesting, as you wonder the little mysteries that happened. Pretty decent, not spectular but watchable in the field of medicore series in this fall season.

Thank you for blogging this! I was really looking forward to
watching this anime, but so far I’ve only seen the sub for 1st ep. xP
Can’t find the other ones anywhere…
I agree the blushing seems to be out of place…maybe the chemistry
between Shibuya and Mai would be better later on? I hope so.
hahahaha, perhaps. However, this is a really really strange pairing for me. I mean, i cannot accept it if they somehow become together. It feels more comedic.
Yea, I am currently watching chinese subs for it… ^+^. Good thing i can at least read chinese. It’s pretty light in content but i like the science behind the logic, i.e. the creaking sound. Nice stuff.
