Manga Review – Bleach 246: The Great Desert Bros.
Winner of the Silliest Chapter of Bleach Ever Award, and let me tell you, it has a lot of competition.

Thoughts
The second Ichigo whacked the Hollow in the face with his Zanpaktou wrapped up, you know something is up. When was the last time Ichigo didn’t directly go for a kill? And neither Ishida’s nor Chad’s attack killed, when Ishida was killing hollows easily long before his two power ups, and Chad was literally flicking Shinigamis away like flies. This is either because Kubo loves his deus ex machinas or these guys are more powerful than they seem.
Nell and his brothers are the dumbest characters out of all of Bleach, probably helped by the fact that they are Hollows. Nell’s exaggerated ‘chibi skull’ mask, the gap in his tooth, and the way he and his brothers act are nothing like the Hollows we are accustomed to. Especially Nelll, who’s an Arrancar. What’s up with all those scary Arrancars up until now? Nell is so cute it’s sickening. He is also responsible for delivering one of the best lines in Bleach: “Ahhhhhhhh, a Thinigami (sic), a bad guy!” Yes, he lisps. So cute I want to break his face, which should be easy since he doesn’t have a Zanpaktou. Where is his Zanpaktou, if he’s a Arrancar? Mystersious.
Rukia’s and Renji’s appearance is a farce. That’s all I have to say about it. I enjoyed this chapter up until the point where they showed up.
Oh, does anyone remember this acute observation I made? Only five chapters later (four of which I didn’t blog, but shhhhhhh. If I don’t tell and you don’t tell, no one needs to know) I get shat all over by Kubo-sensei. Thank you for answering this question that has always bothered me in such a uh… wonderful? interesting? retarded? way. If nothing else, seeing Ichigo act like a bad guy after being called a bad guy made me laugh.

Rukia’s and Renji’s appearance is not a farce. Rukia is the heroine, she has a debt toward Inoue and she can’t let emo-Ichigo fight in that state. And it was obvious since chapter 238 that Renji would help.
Now, we just have to wait chapter 247 to know how they managed to leave Soul Society and enter Hueco Mundo.
alkanphel: Nell is a girl? :O Then why is the chapter called “Great Desert BROS.”? M7’s translation uses ‘he’, so I assumed Nell’s a guy.
eurys: I say Rukia’s and Renji’s appearance is a farce because I don’t see ANY way for them to sneak away from Soul Society, and whatever Kubo might try to tell us in the next chapter I won’t become convinced. The Shinigami’s aren’t stupid, Yamamoto won’t let someone who can Bankai run away when it’s crunch time for battle preparation.
Rukia has no place in Huecos Mundo anyway. Unless they’re there to persuade Ichigo and co. to turn back, their presence won’t have any effect on the outcome of the battles. Rukia won’t stand a chance even against Yami, let alone any of the other Espadas. I really can’t see how this Hueco Mundo arc will end if they don’t leave soon… Ichigo and co. don’t stand a chance in hell of surviving.
Because the other 3 hollows are male and thus the title uses “bros” as a collective term. First rule of M7 translations – never trust their translations. If you can read Chinese or Japanese you’d know instantly that M7 screwed up as usual.

you know, nell is an ex-espada that have been thrown out off at las noches, where the espadas stay. she was a former 3rd espada, meaning she was the third strongest espada, though she looks really dumb. but she will later on transform to her original appearance, having her full power restored…
