In the sky lies an eternal rainbow.
What lies behind that eternal rainbow, a treasure that is an eternal gift that never ceases to disappear.
The gift…

OK, finally, after Kanon (the first show i am fanboying), this is the second series that I have very high hopes for. The fact that it has a mysterious gift that only appears when two people of the same heart and mind brings together a gift that is like the eternal rainbow that stays in this town. The people in the town has a gift, pun intended, in which they can only give it once to just one person. It feels like a gift of eternity, not unlike the rainbow that beautifies the sky.
Anyway, the OP and ED are decent but did not really impress me too much. I must say that the first episode whetted my appetite for more. After watching Kanon, the stark difference in graphics must have imposed a negative biased statement in my heart but after re-watching it, I really felt that there is something special in this show that will touch hearts.
I hope it does, and hopefully they tone down on the fanservice. The pantsu shots are really not required to get the fans to watch it, because I felt that the story was pretty decent. Tons of cliche characters but I feel that if they buck up a little, it will be a good decent show. I hope that it will continue on because my hopes are not diminished yet.
It is possibly going to be merely average or downright bad. I am holding my breath that it’s the former.
Character description

Haruhiko: The main male lead. He has a strong interest in “gifts” and he seems to be a normal male aka pervie. He also suffers from the harem male stereotype where he encounters many pervie moments from all the gals. I wonder why. He also has a serious side to him that is inquistive though and there is a memory of the girl…a childhood friend.

Kirino: The female friend of Haruhiko that is taking care of the father and son in cooking and the likes. She seems to be like a little sister to Haruhiko and clearly (apparently) likes Haruhiko a hell lot. Of course, it seems that Haruhiko only treats her as a little sister (any Kaede-ness perhaps?) and she probably will be heart broken. She seems to be rather shy and cute, with a good friend that is a magician. Wont mention her friend, since …never mind.

Riko: The main female lead who is the childhood friend of Haruhiko. She is cute and has this dress that looks so darn cute. Nothing much known about her yet.

Episode summary

Ok, we have the scene in the past where Haruhiko waved goodbye with Riko when they were young in a train station.
“Why do you have to leave me….”
With that, the dream sequence ended, with Kirino waking Haruhiko. After losing his sanity, he gave some questions (queer ones) to Kirino to make sure that it was the real Kirino because she was wearing the school uniform of her school. We realized that Kirino was always in his house to cook for them, as they left together for school. Oh yea, there is a cameo appearance of a magician girl flying past and grabbing Haruhiko while Kirino was picking up her things at her house.
On the way, a kickass martial arts gal (i have the soft spot for such gals) kicked three punks, clearing the path for the bro-sis to go past. They reached the school and realized that the gift was given and that it did not work out (some bad offspring) as the feelings between the two, the giver and receiver were not together as one. So the gift became an entrenching sakura tree that had swallowed the school whole. Kirino cannot enjoy the freshman orientation…
We realise that it was in fact one of the tennis males that had closed his heart to a junior. They were a very effective partnership when they were in the same middle school. However, as the male graduated, they lost touch and the guy felt that they have distanced. Haruhiko told him that it was not the distance that brought them apart, but the guy itself that have caused the distance. The girl, after seeing the “gift” appeared and they were together once again. As the girl accepted the gift, the tree disappeared.
All good things and Haruhiko wished Kirino good luck for school. A cut scene and we see the appearance of Riko, the childhood friend of Haruhiko once again…

Thoughts

I dont know actually. The show did not impress me too much but it is not too disappointing too. I feel that with some more work, it might turn out to be rather sweet, as long as they dont have too much fanservice like those pantsu shots that are completely not needed. The story is unimpressive as well but i like the concept of the eternal rainbow and the gift. If they will expand this ( i doubt it), it might be better.
For now, I think I am of two minds. Will watch the second episode first before I make any deathly judgment to it.

lolikit added these pithy words on Oct 08 06 at 12:34 amGod this show sucks. It like rips off dacapo and then tries to be charming but fails in a sea of horrible erogetoanime cliches
Hinano added these pithy words on Oct 10 06 at 7:42 pmi think the difference is because i did not watch da capo, which is why i still like it. That is perhaps the background info that i should need. For now, i kinda still ok with it. Not great, but yea.
like average.

It suffices to say that Riko absolutely owns Kirino.
