Ok, Happiness! (pun fully intended).

This is one of the few series that I have been very keen to watch and to be honest, I think I have way too high expectations for the show until I am in fact disappointed with the first episode. Yes, I did. The graphics in the show were less sharp and precise compared to the website, and I must say that I expected much more in the first episode. There was no accompanying music for the whole series, giving this slow pacing feel. The OP/ED are pretty kiddish to me as well, and I will drop the series if not for a certain character in this show.

Yes, he’s the main draw of the show and the reason why I am still watching this, even though I might not blog about it eventually. Hmm, we will see, all right?

Main character description

Yuma: A normal looking guy that seems to be the love interest of the main female lead of the series. He seems to be the guy that had saved Haruhi when he was young and Haruhi was bullied by some kids. He does not seem to know any magic like how the kid in Haruhi’s dreams are though. Strange. He is from the ordinary class.

Haruhi: The main female lead of the series, she is the perfect student in her class, being the most talented magic-user in the magician class of her year. She seems to be very well-mannered in her actions and her best friend is Anri, a fellow magic user. She also has a long crush/liking to the boy that had saved her using magic when she was young. She felt that Yuma was the same guy from ages ago.

Anri: The resident tsundere (more violent than dere-dere) Anri. She is a blonde girl that seems to have a really competitive relationship with Haruhi. She’s darn hot though, moving in a close second against the TRUE main character of this series. She also carries a mean looking magic staff that I liked quite a bit.

Jun: OK, ALL YOU PEOPLE, WORSHIP TO THE QUEEN! Jun is the real deal here and Why you should be watching happiness! I mean, he’s so darn cute as a female. He dresses completely like a female and his complete flirting makes you go awww, so cute!!! Ok, please be remembered that Impzie is a great homophobic but Jun really is pretty completely. It is so hard to imagine him as a guy because he is so pretty.

That beautiful purple hair. That extremely excitable personality. Oh god, MORE JUN PLEASE!!!! If you still did not get it, he is a male that dresses up as a female and can even make Haruhi have a mistaken identity that Jun is Yuma’s girlfriend. Now, how good is that. Oh god, this is so scary.

Episode summary

Hmm, actually, I kind of forgot the full summary of the show, since I spent most of my time fanboying at Jun. Still, let me try to recall as much as I can. We started with the memory of Haruhi, remembering about the time when she was young and that she was saved by a boy who cast magic to get rid of some troublesome kids. We then see Haruhi fending off a flame monster using her magical staff, with some of the other students very impressed that she was able to do it even though she was a year 1 student. Haruhi is the famous year 1 student that is considered to be a perfect magician.

As Haruhi went into the changing room (fanservice lingerie!), we see Anri, Haruhi’s good friend teasing her along the way. As Anri left the area, she was reminded by her magical staff that she had left her staff behind. Haruhi then left for her dorm and realized that Valentine was coming as she brought chocolates for that boy that saved her when she was younger. When Haruhi was about to go to shop for some chocolates, Anri intercepted her and bugged to join her. As they went to the area where they sold chocolates, they found a big crowd and eventually, Haruhi went out of the shop to get some fresh air. We also see the cameo and entrance of Yuma, the rubbish horny man and the heavenly goddess, Jun.

It was then that she met up with Yuma, who tried to rescue a young gal from some bullies (Same scenario). The boys crushed the girl’s chocolate and Haruhi came over, repairing the chocolate with her magic. She also saw that the boy who saved the girl had a starking resemblance to the boy that saved her last time. However, Jun (OH YES, GO JUN GO) came over and gestured for Yuma to go back.

It was then that we realize that the beautiful Jun is in fact a male and that it is so queer that Jun is like treating himself as a girl. However, Jun said that he looks way better in a dress, where everyone worships him because he is just so pretty. Yes, he is! The next day, Valentine came and the horny lame friend said that he did not have any chocolates. Jun offered to give him chocolates but he wanted a real girl to give him (BLASPHEMY!!!). In the training ground, Haruhi was pestered by Anri to reveal who she was going to give the chocolates to as Anri cast a spell to attack Haruhi. However, Anri was unable to control her spell as the spell flew out of the window and blasted around Yuma.

They charged out and Haruhi begged for Yuma’s forgiveness. He did as Haruhi eventually offered her Valentine’s chocolates to him and Anri did it as well. However, Haruhi presumed that Jun was Yuma’s girlfriend! As the group left, Anri mentioned that if the school’s section was destroyed, the magician class and the ordinary class can study together. We then got the news that the school did burn yesterday and the two gals found themselves in the same class with the three…

Everyone needs to ♥ Jun. He is the only reason why I’m watching the series, at least. ^_^

Watching Happiness is like eating candy. It is sweet and nice in small amounts, but nauseating in large doses. Fortunately, I have Black Lagoon for insulin. The last anime to make me feel this way, were the first few episodes of Lamune.
.
That said, I can see myself watching more episodes since they foreshadowed a blondie girl ‘whose-face-cannot-be-seen‘ as a potential future antagonist.
.
Curiosity is always a factor when determining whether or not to continue watching a show. Heh.
.
Cheers.

Jun can be compare to Mizuho in “Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru”… But I love both simply they bring smile to my face… although, just as Skane suggested, watching black lagoon / BBB etc in between isn’t bad idea too…

*wink*
