Another great quote from this wonderful shoujo series called Bokura ga ita. In fact, the next two lines were equally classic. It goes something like.

“I didn’t even enter you! No penetration, no nothing. Not even my head.” - Yano.

Don’t worry, I think this review is SFW (Safe for work). Hmm, yea, there is no erotic content since I have completely no talent to write ero-writing and the fact that it is not portrayed in any ero fashion (I took the line slightly out context) makes this series seem wrong. But it isn’t that wrong yet.

If you are underaged and do not understand the context of the line that was above, please do not try to find out anything. Seriously, I think I am wondering whether to put a mature tag on this anime series, if this content is promoting pre-marital and unprotected sex more than anything. For now, the story between the two is really developing and I can tell the various complications between Yano and his past…

Am I making too much qualifications or not trusting my readers enough? I think not. I mean, if you are reading this blog, you are either 1. insane, 2. Bored, 3. Lolicon 4. All of the above. So I am just worrying for nothing. Anyway, onwards to the discussion!

Episode summary

It continued as usual with the ending of Bokura 8 as Nana said that she was finally ready to give herself to Yano. As they went into the room of Yano, Nana was shocked at how she actually suggested the idea, with her hesitating to strip and feeling very embarrassed about it. As she turned over to see Yano, Yano had already stripped all the way to his boxers, making her even more embarrassed. She then asked him to turn around because she was feeling awkward to take off her clothes with Yano looking.

Yano dutifully turned back and was asked by Nana to turn as she was ready. She still wore clothes but she actually said something flirtaeous like “I want you to undress me”. (OMG, she did not mean it though in the ermm erotic sense). They then went onto the bed and Yano tried to calm her down as she was not looking up at all. Yano told her to imagine that they were in the beach and she was in a bikini rather than really stripping. It made her feel slightly better and he told her to just lift her right hand if she ever felt pain so that he would stop.

Yano then showed enough maturity and adviced her that they would stop right now if there was any hesitation on her part. He did not want her to regret about this because it was something that both of them must enjoy. If she felt even anything at all, they would stop. As they started to engage in foreplay, even Yano was getting a bit nervous as they got closer and kissed.

Nana was now in a dreamy state as she started to think of Yano, as well as the deep feelings that were in her about him. She remembered the flashbacks of Yano in the festival, remembering his various faces, being it smiling, distressed or even jealousy. The words said by Yano were also resounding in her head. There had so much fortune, beauty and fascination in the relationship that Nana was starting to wonder if this was a dream-like reality or was that a dream that felt so much like reality.

However, she jerked back to reality as she felt a strong pain (I am not explaining this in detail) when Yano tried something on her. As Yano tried to calm her down and told her to think of happy thoughts such as cramming her mouth with meat buns, the pain persisted due to Yano trying to …ermm…engage in sex (man, how am I supposed to keep this PG). However, at that point of time, they heard the shuffling of gates and Yano’s mom had came back. They quickly rushed to put on their clothes and left the house.

Nana found it funny actually, even though Yano seemed to be rather embarrassed to him since he had hyped it up so much. He was also disappointed as he was unable to do it due to his mom’s interference and his house was not a good place. Nana wanted to make this a form of anniversary but Yano told her that they did not even do anything since he “did not enter her”. (Don’t ask me what this means, dammit, i need to keep this PG).

As Nana left on the bus, Yano was annoyed as she mentioned why the old bag (his mom) had to come back at this time. However, both of them thought of the same thing: I love you as they left on their seperate ways for the day. The scene changed with Takeuchi and his friends talking about Yano and Nana and that they had sex. Takeuchi asked if it was true and his friends said they had heard of the two of them holding hands and going to Yano’s house. However, Takeuchi seemed skeptical whether the hurt from Nana (ex-gf) was still existent or the current Nana was just a tool for Yano.

We then saw Yano in the classroom, selling his goods for a cheap price. He seemed to be trying to save up money in order to go to a love hotel. Nana then met Yano later in the locker area and she said that she had heard rumors of Yano being a miser. Nana then told him that she did not want to go to a love hotel and instead wanted a special holiday such as going to a hot spring and the likes to do “it”. While Nana was happily saying it, Yano was internally thinking about the high costs of the fees. The last blow came when Nana said that if they could go Tokyo Disneyland, it would be great and Yano literally blacked out.

However, Nana took out a piggy bank and said that the two of them could save and earn enough money to go for their trip. With Nana’s smile, Yano’s defenses were all gone as he agreed. Men in love were really weak to girls. From a distance behind a corridor window, Yamamoto looked on with a slightly wispy look on her face.

They then went to the planetarium for another date and Nana mentioned that she had saved 721 yen. She wanted to create as much memories together. As they board the bus, Yano said that he did not like memories as memories tended to be confusing, with people adding too much into it until it was no longer true and it was superficial. He then shot out a really sappy line that all he wanted was to see Nana in real.

Back at school, Nana was waiting for Mizu-chin when Mizu-chin accidently dropped the books of Yamamoto. Nana went over to help her and saw a photo that belonged to Yamamoto inside a book of poems that Nana had as well. It was a photo of the ex-gf and Yano and Nana started to wonder why Yamamoto had it. Yamamoto came back and noticed that it was missing.

The question over Yamamoto continued in Nana’s head.

Episode thoughts.

A pretty strong episode, with the various themes of love and sex coming into play. It is probably a culmination of the love that Nana had showed to the man that she was willing to give everything, due to the fact that the boiling emotions in her were starting to bottle over. It was done tastefully, even though it was a good thing that they did not eventually engage sex.

It would be rather disturbing if it happened, especially as a viewer, as we knew about the insecurities and trust issues of Yano. Yano was clearly not a likeable character by any means, but I can feel that even he is starting to be changed by the pure love that was given to him by Nana. Nana is really starting to alleviate that pain in him, turning him back from the path that he was viciously dropping down. It was good that Nana came to him when he needed this, though I think that Nana would get the shorter end of the stick, no matter what.

The part about adding a bit of Yamamoto was great as well, as I fully enjoyed the complexity of Yamamoto. On one hand, she seemed to be blantantly hating Yano as she felt that she was being used simply as a tool of revenge by Yano. Yet, the emotions in her that loved Yano once still existed deep in her heart, making her confused on what she needed to do. Even though Takeuchi had little screentime, we could tell from the simple interactions between his friends that he was clearly disturbed whether Nana had sex. His liking for Nana was finally rather clear, with his facial expressions betraying him.

The preview seemed to be Nana finding out more about what REALLY happened between Yamamoto and Nana and the reason behind why the ex-girlfriend was on her ex-boyfriend’s car on the day of the accident. It proves to be a dramatic episode nevertheless. Cool stuff.
