K-Drama – Goong

Goong is a Korean drama adapted from a popular man-hwa series by Park So Hee. The story however differs from the way it developes in the man-hwa though the main gist of it remains.

                                                      Goong Cast:
Yoon Eun Hye – Shin Chae Gyung
Joo Ji Hun – Lee Shin
Kim Jeong Hun – Lee Yul
Sung Ji Hyung – Lee Hyo-Rin

The story begins when an ordinary school girl Chae-gyung (CG) bumps into the nation’s Crown Prince, Lee Shin (Shin) along the school corridor one day, emptying a bucket of dirty water all over his shoes, soiling and dirtying them in the process. It was also by chance that she overheard Shin professing his love to a girl he liked all along, Hyo-rin (Rin). All these little bits of fateful occurences carried no telltales signs of what was installed for both of them. One day, CG finds out about her bethrothal to the Crown Prince of Korea (it was a promise dated a few years back by both their grandparents) when the royal family sent ambassadors to her home, making plans for their marriage. Albeit vehement protestations and hesitations at first, she finally agreed to the bethrothal due to the financial difficulty her family experienced back home.

CG moves into the palace and life doesn’t get any easier for her when she moves into the palace. She had a long list of classes to attend, idioms to remember and instruments to learn. Shin’s aloofness towards CG didn’t improve the way things were for her either. He hates her bubbly personality, he hates his bethrothal to her and even proposed for them to get a divorce (which she readily agreed to) when the reigns of power falls in his hands. Life in the palace for the young Crown Princess grew tough and stifling.

Along the way in her journey of life in the palace, she meets and makes new friends with the palace maids, the servants and even the ex-Crown Prince, Lee Yul (Yul). Yul begins carrying a torch for CG as he starts to spend more time around with her in the palace (Weirdly, Yul who just returned from aboard, turned out to be CG’s new classmate). On the other hand, Rin starts to grow jealous of the attention befalling upon CG and Shin, and starts to want him back (despite her rejection towards him earlier), creating a whole series of misunderstandings. More troubles are added into this entire mess when Yul’s mom (The ex-empress) makes a comeback to the palace and sinisterly plots the downfall of Shin, seeking revenge.

Through it all, we can witness Shin’s growing attachment to CG and her deepening feelings for him. The many love triangles [(Shin-CG-Yul) (CG-Shin-Rin)] that are found in this drama provides for story growth, development and tons of “drama

Korean Dramas are always the best. I have a co-woker who’s Korean and has a bunch of DVD’s of good dramas. That’s something I should review at some point.

Yeah, I’m not a big drama fan, but I even found this kdrama to be pretty interesting, lol.
Asides from the main leads, my favorite characters were probably Chae Gyung’s friend with the glasses and the guy in Shin’s posse that hits on her, lol.

I have been watching Goong/Princes Hours on this TV station called ImaginAsian TV and I’m ADDICTED! I want to find out what happens to CG, and I really hate Rin right now… after what she did in Thailand… have any of you been watching it in the US too? I think ImaginAsian is the only channel that is showing the drama right now. I have been entering their sweepstake everyweek hoping that I will win a DVD. They are giving out a Princess Hours BOXSET as a grand prize on their website! I never win things like that, but figured I’ll still try… there is only hope to own the whole set and review this great drama afterwards again!

Se7en is doing Goong 2… can’t wait to see that too!

I watched many Kmovies and drama .Goong is the best drama and I like Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hun. I watched this drama for several times. So after this I bought another Yoon Eun Hye’s drama like ” Vine Yard Man ” and ” Coffee Prince”. She is really cute .Now I am start to interesting to learn Korea Language . I’d like to understand the Korean drama very well instead of reading subtitle in English.
